2015

Form and content

2015

On the picture we see a ballerina in an attitude pose. Gracefulness and easiness of movement freedom throws her body up, she tries to overcome terrestrial attraction. The dark figure on the white background gives picture a special expressiveness, and its beauty diverts attention from the dark body. But we can see the contradictions: between heavy color of the body and the light figure; between the spirit of verticality and impossibility to be torn off from the land; between balance and fall. The attention to beauty creates an illusion of fascination that loses the question about what content fills the form, marked by the dirty, heavy color, like a pain in a body. Communicating with people, made of beautiful lines, we often do not observe that they are filled with fears, depression, problems exaggeration, enmity and hatred. Can a beautiful body be ill? The internal question of philosophy is a choice of harmony between form and content. The idea of human harmony and beauty was expressed by A.P. Chekhov: “All must be beautiful in human: face, cloth, soul and thoughts”
